With the new John Deere landscaping tractor, I had SO MUCH FUN on my holiday, starting to make roads and clear a way into Lot 2. ( It was virtually impenetrable to walking due to tangled branches.)
Here’s a short youtube video of me on the tractor.
June 28 update. I’m very happy! I made a road.
And Dan made a YouTube video of this new road on Lot 2. My neighbors will naturally have some concerns, but once its flattened and groomed and grass seeds planted, it will make alternate walking paths, that everyone on the island can enjoy. I truly want my neighbors to walk on Lot 2 and 3, with the benefit being that they can spot problems and let me know, even if I’m back in Edmonton or Camrose.
Before there was a road, this is what it looked like.
June 27, 2013 update. I’m going to need a stump grinder or mulcher on my tractor. I’ve been googling solutions: Starting with an adaptor that lets Skid Steer attachments hook onto the front 300CX loader of my tractor. Maybe the Marshall Tree Saw, except that it is far too heavy at 1600 to 2000 lbs. My tractor can’t lift that. But I think the idea can be re-engineered, to put the huge hydraulic cylinders farther back, outside the sides of the loader, farther back behind the pivot point, so they act as counter-weights. A fun job for a welder and Princess Auto stuff. Maybe an SS ECO mulcher. Or more expensive mulcher (more carbide probably, but probably too heavy. This little mulcher weighs 2100 lbs.
