Now I’m interested in front Entry Doors that are strong and beautiful, with embedded features that are only available if you custom make everything yourself. So I’m using this post to accumulate notes and example pictures.
– uCamPro HD is an iPad app that can view security cameras. I think I’ll add cameras all over the place, home, hangar, office, island. (this software supports audio features of these kinds of cameras (Axis, Agasio, Airsight, Apexis, Coolcam, Dlink, EasyN, Foscam, Hootoo, Instar, IPUX, Konig, Loftek, Panasonic, Smarthome, Tenvis, Trendnet, Vstarcam, Wansview)
– Camera suppliers, TRENDnet, Foscam and other suppliers.
I’m thinking of embedding into the door, the power wires for a camera, a doorbell on the door itself, and strong steel.
.
This is just an example from South Bay Rustic Doors who do fabulous work, and there are also lots of beautiful doors made for custommade.com. This Houzz website also has many companies making custom doors. Or an Edmonton-based source of wraught-iron imported doors.
But I want thicker than standard, with steel also in the door frames, and a thick chain on the inside that can be attached, to allow the door to be opened “ajar”, but not be kicked in-able.
My current house door, viewed from inside and outside.
Here’s a mockup I made in photoshop, showing an idea of 2 arches, to surround the door and upper window. These came from a blue-ish photo… but I don’t want blue color. This is just to show the rough concept of the 2 arches.
Here’s a couple ideas for blacksmith-made big hinges. I don’t really like these exact designs, but its a possiblity I could design something better myself.
Feb 3, 2013 update. I found an ad on Kijiji from Wally at Atlantic Wood Products, to phone 780-467-3368, located 329 Kaska Road, Sherood Park. The ad says ‘Large stock dimensional lumber’, fir, cedar larch. Some pieces kiln dried. Their pictures show a sawmill in their shop. I should be able to get exactly the fir that I need, to build my door.
Feb 17, 2013 update. I found Black Forest Wood Doors, a company in Calgary, and their website shows their shop, which is quite instructive on how to create doors.
