How I sound in March 2012

March 31, 2012 By Steven Halls

When I practice piano, I try not to exert conscious control over how it sounds, so what comes out is usually reflecting my mood. Here are some recent examples, where my digital piano (Clavinova CVP-409) records what I played.

audio_21 is exploring barely tolerable dissonant keys-close-together.
Audio_20 is muddy moving scales, not too pleasing.
Audio_18 a lovely low low E flat + maj 18th theme. Needs good speakers to sound good.
Audio_17 Nothing special here. Just doodling.
Audio_16 This one will suprise you! It suprised me.
Audio_15 This totally exemplifies that you can basically play random notes, but make them move in a certain direction, and keep a rhythm going, and it will sound good.
Audio_13 Same principle, of keep the notes moving in a rhythm, tolerate the unexpected chords that emerge, and let your brain learn from it while you sleep later. This one is beautiful, although I apparently had some very weighty emotional undercurrents being expressed. ( I have some things on my mind, that only music can express.)

OH, and for something completely different, I found this youtube video of some people doing Zumba dancing. Watch it, and try not to laugh.
