Grass is now growing where there used to impenetrable tangled bushes, followed by muddy swamp, and is very exciting, for me. Recall the process: buying a forestry mulcher, trucking and barging it to the island, mowing down the bushes, digging drainage trenches, lots of reshaping and smoothing the surfaces. Grass seed didn’t grow 2 prior times it was spread. This 3rd time succeeded because the seeds were a special mix for coastal revegitation, the seeds were soaked in water overnight, (or up to 24 hrs), and they were raked into the dirt (not just sprinkled on top), and then watered a lot ( requiring boat trips to bring freshwater tanks to the island). My neighbors probably thought I was making a destructive big mess.
June 30, 2014 update.
Before, although its a 6 acre property, so little of it was walkable, it felt like smaller usable area than my own backyard in Edmonton. Now I feel like the acres are actually there.
