Denise and Roger have built jigs for making custom cover plates for light switches and power plugs. I’m having custom wood cover plates made out of maple, and stained to match the other woodwork, in the Veritas Imaging clinic in Camrose.
December 28,2013. The cover plates aren’t finished yet, but here are pictures of the process.
First, I’m very pleased with and proud of my router. It’s got an iron surface so that MagSwitch pieces can attach. It’s got a Jessem micro-adjusting fence held on by MagSwitches. It’s got a MLCS PowerLift for micro control of router bit heights.
Here’s a variation in the jig, made of plywood,
After staining, before clear finish
I’ll add more pictures, as these go through the finishing stages, and pictures of their final place on the walls of Veritas Imaging in the ultrasound rooms.
On eBay, you can buy wood cover plates for about 10 dollars each. Making them in my own shop, (paying Roger and Denise) probably has cost me about the same, but now we have jigs and experience, to make more in the future. And any kind of wood, any type of staining and finishing, is possible.
