Look at this old roller mill, that I bought on Kijiji. Had it trucked and boated out to the island. (Thanks Kevin and Don, and especially Roger for that big smile at the end of the video.)
Why would I buy such a thing? Who wouldn’t want this!

Cool machines
There’s something mesmerizing about watching these machines making artistic blacksmith stuff, ( for example, wrought iron fences with fancy scrollwork), in high volume. I stumbled onto these videos, and wanted to share them.
and part 2 is here.

Big Anvil by Renato Muskovic
I bought a big anvil made by Renato Muskovic. Getting it back to the island, Don Macmullin scared me by calling it a big boat anchor.

Photoshop-ery exploring building ideas
A temporary post. I have some space where I want a concrete (on sand) surface, and a roof to keep materials dry. I made mockups using centerposts, and outside-wall timber-frame post-and-beam style, (the latter wouldn’t need steel or glulam). The pictures are just for my friends to see, and give ideas back to me.

Don’s pictures from Kemano (by Allan Colton actually)
November 20,2014 update. A strange twist to the story on this post. I originally posted that Don MacMullin took the photographs. (see below). But 2 days ago I was contacted by the true photographer, Allan Colton. Allan of course, is deserving of the true credit, but I also want to explain how this happened.
Don explained that during his last days of working up in Kemano, all his co-workers were exchanging their photos back and forth with each other, to preserve their memories of a remarkable place. Don had been taking photos with his own camera too, and exchanging. They didn’t keep track of who gave what to whom, and it was during that process that Don received Allans’ photographs, unknowingly.
I first saw the photos while sitting at a kitchen table on Hudson Island, and Don was showing the pictures and describing his work up there. They were in a folder on his laptop. A few weeks went by, and I had returned to Edmonton, and one day I was thinking about the photos again, thinking they were so beautiful and such a shame that nobody else could see them. So I asked Don if he’d give permission for me to post them. Don, ‘should have‘ told me they weren’t all his photographs, but he didn’t. Now Don is very embarrassed, and he and I both have apologized to Allan. I think Allan reacted in a much nicer way than many other professional photographers would have. Allan said, keep the post showing, and just give me the proper credit.
So this is a start. Allan was also invited to supply more detailed captions about the photographs that he recognizes as being his. For instance, not all of them are from Kemano, Some are from Kitmat, others are from other places. Therefore, this post might be having more updates, as Allan supplies me with more info.
Mar 2, 2014. Don MacMullin kindly gave permission to post some of his spectacular pictures from Kemano BC. Suitable for printing at 11×14 size and putting in expensive picture frames, I think.
